This is great stuff... made me rethink my page titles, for sure.

Usually businesses put their tag line (or USP) at the top of their home-page. Are you suggesting that it might be better to put your most important keywords within your tagline?

Example:
DogWalkersAreUs.com (making this up)
"Your neighborhood dog-walking service in South Beach" (56 characters)

Instead of:
DogWalkersAreUs.com
"Your pets, treated like royalty" (Tagline / USP)

"Most consumers have to pay to receive text marketing messages"

This might have been true in 2006 when this article was paraphrased. However, 78% of current mobile users have unlimited text messaging and data packages due to the rise of smart phone use.

"Can create a bad perception of your company brand"

Technically ANY marketing initiative can potentially create a bad perception of a brand/company if it's not thought out and centered around giving the end-user control and privacy. A recent study proves that e-mail marketing has a dismal 32% open rate due to excessive spam and strict mail filters. Text Marketing is still new enough that application developers are thinking about privacy and end-user control as a primary feature of text-marketing applications. Giving a company the ability to target their text-messages to a specific persons needs, wants and product usage will divide the line between text-marketing applications that fail and those that create a great marketing opportunity for companies as well as giving customers offers and specials they can't refuse.
